Assigning worksheets in the trial balance is optional but can help divide responsibilities - especially for workpapers with many users.

How to assign a worksheet

You can assign worksheets in two ways:

  1. From the Trial Balance Screen:

    • Select the accounts you want to assign by using the checkboxes.

    • Click the Assign button and choose the assignee/s from the list.

  2. Within a Worksheet:

    • Open the worksheet for the account you want to assign.

    • Click the + icon next to the assignee field and select the person to assign the account to.

Best Practices

Below are some suggestions for how you can utilise the assignee feature in a workpaper:

  • Assign filtered accounts: Narrow down your trial balance utilising the filter function and then assign accounts from this list. For instance, you could assign all fixed asset accounts to a particular staff member.

  • Work in batches: Assign a small number of accounts at a time, which is particularly useful when allocating tasks to junior staff to keep workloads manageable.

  • Self-assign as needed: Assign yourself accounts to manage and breakdown your own workflow.

  • Filter by assignee: Apply the Assignee filter to view accounts assigned to you or others and track progress.
