This article shares practical reporting strategies to help preparers manage their workload efficiently in Cimplico Workpapers. While each firm may have its own processes, these tips are broadly useful for anyone working in a preparer role.

Common goals for preparers

Most preparers are aiming to:

  • Stay on top of their assigned work

  • Manage deadlines and reporting periods

  • Keep workpapers moving forward

  • Prioritise workpapers that are incomplete or overdue

These common goals have shaped the reporting combinations we’ve suggested below.

Reporting Combinations

Here are some helpful ways to use various pages and search, sort, and filter combinations to manage your workpapers as a preparer.

Open Work

My open workpapers

Displays all open workpapers assigned to you, providing a comprehensive view of your current workload.

💡 When to use it: Use this daily for a quick overview of your assigned workpapers.

Workpapers Page

  • Status: Open

  • Due Date: Between [Today’s Date] and [Date One Week/Month from Today]

Outcome

Shows workpapers due within the next week or month, helping you plan ahead and take a proactive approach to upcoming deadlines.

💡 When to use it: When scheduling your workpapers ahead to ensure timely completion.

My overdue workpapers

Filters

  • Assigned to: Me

  • Status: Open

  • Overdue: On

Outcome

Highlights all your overdue workpapers, allowing you to identify and address workpapers that require immediate attention.

💡 When to use it: When prioritising workpapers that have surpassed their due dates.

My open workpapers ordered by progress %

Filters

  • Assigned to: Me

  • Status: Open

Sorting

  • Progress %: Ascending

Outcome

Displays your open workpapers sorted by progress percentage, enabling you to see which are nearly complete and which require more effort.

💡 When to use it: When deciding whether to focus on finalising nearly completed workpapers or to allocate time to those that are less advanced.

Workpapers certified by me but still open

Filters

  • Assigned to: Me

  • Status: Open

  • Certified: Preparer

Outcome

Shows open workpapers that have been certified by a preparer and are assigned to you. In most cases, this will reflect workpapers you’ve certified yourself - especially if you usually work in a preparer role.

💡 When to use it: To track the progress of workpapers you’ve completed and ensure they are moving through the review and approval stages efficiently.

By utilising these search, sort, and filter combinations, you can effectively manage your workload, stay organised, and ensure that workpapers progress smoothly through to completion.
