Procedures are tasks attached to workpapers as a whole to outline essential responsibilities for team members. These items can be marked as complete or not applicable (n/a) with a reason provided.

Why Are Procedures Important?

Firm procedures play a key role in maintaining consistency and quality across engagements.

  • Boosts Efficiency: Procedures provide a clear outline of tasks that need to be addressed, reducing the need for back-and-forth or guessing.

  • Minimises Errors: Standardised tasks ensure nothing is overlooked, leading to accurate and reliable workpapers.

  • Promotes Uniformity: Creates consistency across engagements, ensuring all tasks align with professional standards.

💡 Tip: We recommend you create customised procedure lists for different job types, like Annual Compliance, Fringe Benefits Tax Returns, or Business Activity Statements, to better suit your firm’s specific needs.

How Do Procedures Work?

  1. Setup:

    • Procedures are configured at the firm level, with items assigned to specific roles (e.g., preparer, reviewer).

    • You can also assign procedures to certain entity types to ensure relevance.

  2. Application to Workpapers:

    • When a workpaper is created, the desired procedure template is selected and automatically applied to the job.

  3. Completion:

    • Team members complete their assigned procedure items as they complete the job. Each action is tracked with a timestamp and user for accountability.

  4. Marking as Not Applicable:

    • If an item doesn’t apply, it can be marked as not applicable (n/a), with a reason provided. The item will then be excluded from completion requirements.

ℹ️ Note: Cimplico provides templates to get you started, but you can fully customise them to meet your firm’s specific needs.
