Client queries in Cimplico Workpapers are a key tool for requesting information and clarifications from clients. Carefully drafting these queries ensures clear communication, supports tracking and resolution, and simplifies exporting queries as a CSV file that’s ready to send without additional edits.

1. Be specific and detailed

Providing detailed and specific queries ensures the CSV export is client-ready, reducing the need for editing before sharing.

“Please provide the bank statement for account #001 as at 30 June 2024.”

“Bank statement?”

2. Use one query per request

In Cimplico Workpapers, keeping each query focused on a single request helps with tracking and ensures everyone is aligned on what has been resolved and what remains outstanding.

“Please provide the invoice for the $1,000 transaction on 1st June 2024.” &

“Please confirm whether this is a personal transaction or solely for business purposes.”

“Please provide the invoice for the $1,000 transaction on 1st June 2024 and confirm if it is a personal transaction or solely for business purposes.”

3. Review last year’s queries

Before starting a new workpaper, review client queries from the previous year. This helps anticipate common questions and avoids repeating requests.

✅ Navigate to the Client Queries tab in last year’s workpaper to identify recurring queries.

4. Maintain a consistent format

A consistent format ensures that the exported CSV can be sent to the client immediately without further editing. Your queries should either be phrased as clear questions or as a structured list of information required, depending on what best suits the request.

Questions format:

  • “Can you provide a breakdown of the repairs and maintenance expense for the 2024 financial year?”

  • “Can you provide a copy of the tax invoice for the highlighted insurance payment?”

List format:

  • Repairs and maintenance expense breakdown for 2024.

  • Tax invoices for insurance payments

❌ Inconsistent format:

  • “Can you provide a breakdown of the repairs & maintenance?”

  • “Tax invoices for the insurance payments"

5. Track and Resolve Queries Efficiently

Marking queries as resolved in Cimplico Workpapers helps maintain momentum and keeps the job progressing towards review and certification. Only mark queries as resolved when they’ve been fully addressed.

✅ Regularly review the Client Queries tab to monitor progress and follow up where necessary.

Why It Matters

Following these best practices ensures:

  • Efficient CSV Exports: Queries are client-ready, reducing the need for post-export edits.

  • Streamlined Tracking: One query per request simplifies tracking and ensures everyone is aligned.

  • Improved Workflow: Resolving queries promptly keeps the workpaper progressing toward review and certification.
