Each reviewer can decide whether to review worksheets periodically or wait until preparer certification. Both approaches have their benefits, depending on the team’s workflow and the complexity of the workpaper.

ℹ️ Note: Worksheets that have been reviewed will automatically revert to an In Progress status if changes are made to them (internal comments added, amounts change, client queries added).

Best Practices to Consider:

Option 1: Periodic reviews for incremental progress

  • Ideal for junior staff or complex workpapers where ongoing guidance is needed.

  • Review worksheets in the Awaiting Review tab at regular intervals to catch errors early, add internal comments, and keep the progress moving.

  • As you review, you can also assign additional worksheets for preparation or exclude those that don’t require further attention.

Option 2: Reviewing after preparer certification

  • Best suited for smaller workpapers or experienced preparers who don’t require ongoing feedback.

  • Wait until the preparer has certified the workpaper, ensuring all procedures, checklists, and reconciliations are finalised before the review begins.

  • Avoids redundant review points, as using procedures scoped to the Preparer role and adding checklists to specific worksheets can address minor issues that would otherwise surface during iterative reviews.
