💡 Version 1 (June 2025)

This is just the beginning - more enhancements to Carry Forward are on the way over the coming months.

Carry Forward lets you link to a prior period workpaper and bring forward information as you need, as you go.

Unlike traditional tools that duplicate the entire workpaper, this feature takes a more flexible, opt-in approach. You can see prior year context and selectively bring in entries, schedules, or calculations as you are completing the workpaper.

The basics

Linking to a Prior Workpaper

Selecting a prior workpaper is the first step - but nothing is carried forward yet. You’re simply setting the link so that you can access prior year context throughout the current workpaper.

Option 1: During workpaper creation

  • On the first setup screen, toggle Carry Forward on.

  • Choose a prior workpaper from the dropdown (open or completed).

  • Once linked, the system will attempt to auto-link worksheets in the Trial Balance based on account matching.

Option 2: After workpaper creation

  • Open your workpaper, go to Settings (cog icon)Details tab.

  • Use the Prior Workpaper dropdown to select a previous period.

  • Save your changes.

Linking Worksheets

When you select a prior workpaper during workpaper creation, Cimplico will automatically attempt to link worksheets in the Trial Balance based on matching accounts.

If you link the prior workpaper after creation, auto-linking is not yet available - you’ll need to link worksheets manually (individually or in bulk).

Option 1: Link from within a worksheet

  • Open a worksheet → click Link to Prior.

  • Select the corresponding worksheet from the prior workpaper.

Option 2: Link in bulk

  • From the Trial Balance select multiple worksheets.

  • Click More ActionsLink to Prior.

  • Use the mapping table to pair each current worksheet with a prior worksheet.

Once linked, you’ll be able to view and carry forward content.

Carrying Forward Entries

After linking to prior worksheets, you will be able to see a prior year entries table which appears underneath the current entries. This includes:

  • Date

  • Description

  • Files

  • Amounts

To carry forward entries, use the checkboxes to select the prior entries you need, then click Carry Forward to copy them up into the current year section.

Carrying Forward Calculations

When a worksheet is linked to a prior, you’ll see prior year calculations in their own section below the current calculations.

To carry forward a calculation:

  • Click on a prior calculation card → choose Carry Forward.

  • If eligible, the calculation is added to the current worksheet and creates any related linked entries.

⚠️ Shared Calculation templates can only appear once in a workpaper. If you’ve already added a shared calculation from the template, you won’t be able to carry it forward again. A tooltip will explain why.

Carrying Forward Other Schedules

You can also link a worksheet in Other Schedule to a prior year Other Schedule worksheet.

Option 1: When creating a new schedule

  • Go to Other SchedulesNew SchedulePrior Workpaper tab.

  • Select a prior schedule to copy.

  • A new version is created with the same name, tag, and description, and prior entries displayed below.

Option 2: Link after creating a schedule

  • Open the schedule → click Link to Prior.

  • Choose the matching schedule from the previous workpaper.

💡 Key differences to expect

Carry Forward in Cimplico Workpapers is opt-in, not all-in.

  • You’re not duplicating last year’s workpaper.

  • Instead, you’re linking to prior year context and choosing what to carry forward on a case-by-case basis.

  • This helps avoid unnecessary clutter, keeps things current, and gives your team more control.

⚠️ Limitations

These items are not yet carried forward, even if they exist in the prior year:

  • Internal comments

  • Client queries
